What Are Cartilage Earrings?
Cartilage Earrings are similar to your usual earring with a basic difference that the cartilage earrings are not worn on the earlobe. Instead they are worn on your ear cartilage. Cartilage is the upper part of the external ear. The term “ear piercing” usually refers to an earlobe piercing, whereas piercings in the upper part of the external ear are often referred to as “cartilage piercings”. Cartilage piercings are more complex to perform than earlobe piercings and take longer to heal.
Cartilage earrings are made of any number of materials, including metal, plastic, glass, precious stone, beads, wood, bone, and other materials. Designs range from small loops and studs to large plates and dangling items. if you have just got your cartilage pierced, choose your cartilage earring very very carefully. This is because cartilage piercings usually take a long time to heal, typically much longer than earlobe piercings, and the same earrings need to be worn until the healing process is complete. In some cases, it may take up to an year to hear a cartilage piercing while in some cases it may just take a few weeks. However, on an average it takes up to six months to completely heal a cartilage piercing. So, choose an earring which is comfortable to wear and is non-allergic. A high-quality metal such as sterling silver or gold may be best to wear initially.
The inside of a cartilage piercing may take much longer to heal than the outside, and the daily cleaning regimen should be kept up until both the inside and outside are completely healed to avoid infection. Once your piercing is properly & completely healed, you can then choose from a variety of cartilage earrings available in the market and online.
