Tarun Tahiliani – First Indian Designer to be Invited to Milan Fashion Week

Tarun Tahiliani is one of the most popular fashion designer in India. He is famous for his quintessential designs which are always ethereal and are a real treat to the eyes. His collection, designs speak of the luxury, class, refinement and sophistication. His designs are meant for the elites of the society.

In his designer pieces he uses luxurious fabric with elaborated embellishments that just steals your heart. Most of the celebrities are his die-hard fans. Tarun Tahiliani is a brand  that combines the contemporary with the Indian traditions of draped form and techniques that millions of Indian crafts people imbibe with love. His designs are a perfect mix of western cut & construct with the Indian heritage & craftsmanship.

Tarun Tahiliani was born and bought up in Mumbai. He did his basic schooling in Mumbai and when his father was posted to Delhi, he went to study at The Doon School, a boarding school in Dehradun. In 1987 Tarun and his wife Sailaja opened their first multi-designer boutique in India. The name of the boutique is ‘Ensemble’. It was India’s first multi-designer store that featured works of five designers i.e  Abu Jani & Sandeep Khosla, Rohit Khosla, Anuradha Mafatlal, Neil Bieff, label Anaya by Anita Shivdasani and Sunita Kapoor, and and their own label called Ahilian. Later Tarun opened ‘Tahiliani Design Studio’ in 1990. Tarun Tahiliani is known for his ability to incorporate Indian craftsmanship and textile heritage with the European tailored silhouette.

Tarun Tahiliani is probably India’s most established designer in terms of infrastructure and distribution. He has a degree in management from the Wharton School of Business and an associate degree from The Fashion Institute of Technology, New York.

Over the years he has also undertaken projects in interior designing. For example hotel The Sofala in Goa, Aish at the Park in Hyderabad and many more. The designer clothes created by him are sold in Tokyo, New York, London, Hong Kong, Dubai and in his stores in New Delhi and Mumbai.
