Cherrapunji is credited as being the second wettest place on Earth after Mawsynram. Both these places are located in the North Eastern part of India. Mawsynram is a small village located in the East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya. This village is located 65 kms away from Shillong.
According to the Guinness Book of World Records Mawsynram received 26,000 millimetres (1,000 in) of rainfall in 1985.
Cleanest Village in Asia
Yes, That’s true. The cleanest village of Asia is located in India. The name of the village is Mawlynnong and it is located in East Khasi Hills District of Meghalaya. It is situated 90 km from Shillong along with India-Bangladesh border. The literacy rate is 100%. Agriculture is the chief occupation of the local population, with betel nut being the main crop. Mawlynnong is known for its cleanliness.
