Khajjiar – The Mini Switzerland of India
Popularly referred as the ‘Mini Switzerland’, Khajjiar is a popular but small hill station located in the Himalayan mountain range, Khajjiar is about 26 km from Dalhousie in Himachal Pradesh. Anybody going to Dalhousie or a nearby place, a visit to this divine place called Khajjiar is a must.
The drive from Dalhousie to Khajjiar is a soothing experience as you drive through one of the most beautiful Bakrota Hills. Khajjiar sits on a small plateau with a small lake in the middle. The hill station is surrounded by meadows and forests. Most tourists travel to Khajjiar by private or rented vehicles. Bus service to and from Khajjiar is limited and timing changes according to local demands.
The best thing to do in Khajjiar is to just walk around the lake or anywhere else. long walks through the pine forest or the slopped terrain. Other attractions that you can visit during your visit to khajjiar are the Dauladhar mountains, Khajjiar lake, Khajjinag temple and the Bhoot Bangla.
The Kalatop Khajjiar Sanctuary is a small sanctuary which lies in the catchments of the Ravi River, and contains patches of good coniferous and Oak forests.
Best time to Visit:
It entirely depends on what you prefer. Khajjiar is actually beautiful in all seasons. You’ll see snow during the winter months in Khajjiar, while summers months are pleasantly delightful. April to October is the best time to visit Khajjiar. Summers are fairly pleasant, with temperatures ranging from 12° C to 25° C. Winters are extremely cold, with temperatures dipping as low as 2° C to 10° C.
