10 Famous Fashion Designers and Fashion trends in India

Fashion is a huge industry in India. With globalisation Indian Fashion has got a wider platform to display their talents and introduce the 'Sari' to the world. India was always known as a country of jungles, snakes and poverty. But this has changed over the last decade. One of the reasons of India competing in the race among the leading countries of the world is because of its sudden burst of fashion exposure - both within and beyond the country.

India is a diverse nation and does not have one particular style to call its own. However, fashion in India placed itself on the map creating its own unique identity of FUSION - the beautiful blend and combination od various dressing styles in the country. Right from the traditional salwar kameez or sarees to churidars, kurtis, the semi formal way of wearing it over trousers or jeans, capris and the higly elegant and contemporary style of draping sarees, from simply cotton blouses to halter-neck, puffed sleeves, deep necks, and lycra-fitted blouses. Apart from regional attires, the Bollywood element also holds a domineering part in Indian Fashion style.

Lets take a look at the current top fashion designers in the country.

Revamping Bollywood - Bold is Beautiful

Also gone are the days when a hero or heroine gradually stepped into aged roles after crossing a certain age limit. And even with the new brigade of actors like Ranbir, Imran, Harman, Sonam, Deepika or Shruti, the superstars that ruled the Bollywood stage since more than a decade have not yet called it quits and are still sizzling hot. So, who dares say that Bollywood is filled with stereotypes.

iPhone 3G competitors

The iPhone 3G has just released and we have reviewed it already. It is a great phone but definitely not the best out there. We take a look at some phones which, while priced similarly to the iPhone, have many features that are much better than the iPhone 3G. They can easily kick the iPhone 3G’s in a one to one face off. So here we present the devices, that we think, can dethrone the iPhone to become the king of smartphones. All these smart-phones have all the regular features like calling, messaging, email, high speed web browsing etc, so we won’t be elaborating much on those points. We will highlight and compare just those features which are in direct contrast to the iPhone 3G. All these devices will be releasing (hopefully) by the end of 2008. All new phones now have accelerometers, touchscreens and other sensors, all thanks to the iPhone. Do note that the devices are in no particular order.

Note: The iPhone 3G has changed the history of mobile phone development and set the path for constant innovation. Its Multi Touch UI is its biggest asset. It was so cool and innovative, that even after a year of the iPhone’s release, no manufacturer has been able to beat it in terms of user interface capabilities. However even after the release of the iPhone 3G, it still has some very stupid shortcomings like - no video recording, no cut paste abilities, no MMS, no A2DP, no Flash support etc.
Most of the Gurus were born in Northern India, notably the Punjab, although they traveled extensively from as far west as Arabia to Assam in the east and Sri Lanka in the south. Guru Nanak, the first Guru was born in modern day Pakistan, and Guru Gobind Singh, the tenth Guru was born in Patna, Bihar. Before his death, Guru Gobind Singh nominated the Sikh holy scripture, the Guru Granth Sahib as the final and eternal Guru of Sikhism.
Top Five Yoga Centers in India

Yoga has been a part of India's ethos and daily practice for over 5,000 years. But it is only recently that the mind-, body-, and soul-enhancing benefits of yoga have made it a global phenomenon. As yoga's popularity rises in the U.S. and other Western countries, travelers increasingly are making their way to the land of its birth. In India, yoga has grown in sophistication, and yoga retreats have mushroomed across the country. They range from top-end luxury spas to small hotels in religious centers such as Uttarkashi in the north and Thiruvananthapuram in the south.

Yoga tourists in India can also choose to study with neighborhood housewives who teach yoga in their living rooms or at trendy studios begun by socialites. Fortunately for the purists, there are several yoga schools run by grand masters who still teach the practice in the time-tested way, steeped in ancient traditions and philosophy. For them, yoga isn't instant nirvana; indeed, it is mastered only after years of rigorous practice.

Bollywood film undergoes a change as the new breed of filmmakers are now experimenting with new genres of short duration film-making, rather than sticking to age old three hours of dream drama. Like many other film industries across the world, Bollywood too has two streams of film making namely - Popular or mainstream commercial cinema and Parallel cinema.

Bollywood filmmakers till now had an unrestrained eye for action, drama, song and flight sequence in their films to heighten dramatic effects. With plenty of time at disposal, watching a film used to be a popular form of entertainment and mostly family outing for the most of the people in earlier days.

India won its first individual Gold medal at the Beijing Olympics today. Abhinav Bindra won the prestigious medal at the 10m Air Rifle event at the Beijing Games.

The 25-yr-old is a Khel Ratna and Arjuna awardee and has won a gold medal in 2002 Commonwealth Games in the pairs event and silver in the individual event. He also got a gold medal in the 2006 World Championship in Zagreb. Winning the solo gold medal at the Beijing Games, makes one recall the time Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore won the silver medal in Athens 2004, for Double Trap Shooting.

This is the first time an Indian has won a solo gold medal in any Olympics. And all this amidst a spine injury which hindered his preparations in the run up to the Games.

Related Articles
The Opening Ceremony at Beijing Olympics
India's Tennis Hopefuls at Beijing Olympics
Indian Sportspersons to watch out for at the Olympics
Indian Athletes at the 2008 Beijing Olympics

India at Beijing Olympics 2008: The Opening Ceremony

The Olympics kicked of today the 8th of August, 2008 at Beijing with it's Grand Opening Ceremony.

India's small contingent of 98 including 56 athletes and a support-staff of 42 officials led by Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore carrying the tri-colour looked a bit shoddy with their mis-matched outfits. The Indian Olympic Squad looked good from far, as the male members decked out in off-white sherwanis. But as they came closer, things looked hardly impressive with the female members of the contingent making it a veritable go-as-you-like with their contrasting outfits that made them look completely misfit for the occasion.

The tennis duo of Sania Mirza and Sunitha Rao, attired in black trousers and practice jackets, looked completely out of sorts and the contrast was even more jarring to the eyes as going side by side was Delhi paddler, Neha Aggarwal who chose a greenish saree for the occasion.

While the crowd roared with excitement to greet them, including Congress president Sonia Gandhi, one can only feel that they should have been better organized and more formal in their setting and presentation.

While I have the utmost respect for each and every sports person at Beijing for getting as far as they did, judging from the carefree and laid back attitude at the opening ceremony...it make's me wonder whether we really stand a chance at winning any medals this year or are we just there for the ride. Let's just keep our fingers crossed and pray the players performances in their respective events isn't as boring, unorganized and sloppy as their entrance today.

The Olympics are here again. But India's performance in the Olympics till date has not been so impressive. This year, with the hockey team out of the medal contingent, we can at least look up to tennis for some consolation..

<img src="http://specials.rediff.com/sports/2006/jan/17sd2.jpg"width="300"Height="218"align="right"style="padding:5px;">This time Indian Tennis squad will be represented by Sania Mirza and world famous duo of Leander Paes – Mahesh Bhupatahi. Mirza, India’s female tennis sensation will participate in singles as well as doubles with her partner Sunitha Rao. After suffering from injury for a long time Mirza has recently made a come back. Due to her in and out intervals, she could not maintain her winning steak and her position has also dropped in the latest world rankings. But the Hyderabadi girl while talking with media recently was looking highly optimistic for the Olympic medal.

Following a long series of tit-bits, Paes and Bhupatahi got ready to play together for India in Beijing Olympics. Both these players have lots of potential, so we can hope medal in tennis for India. Besides, female tennis players Mirza and Rao too have the caliber to win medal.

Also Read:
India at Beijing Olympics 2008: The Indian Squad
Indians to watch out for in the 2008 Beijing Olympics
Indian Athletes Competing in The 2008 Beijing Olympics
India's Best Shooters at The Beijing Olympics 2008

Here's a Look at Our Tennis Hopefuls from The Indian Squad at the 2008 Beijing Olympics:

Mehndi (Henna) Art

<img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2070/2283907063_5d08c132fd_m.jpg"width=""Height=""align="right"style="padding:5px;">Henna, also known as Heena, is a form of body art that has existed since ancient times. Mehndi (or Henna) is the application of henna as a temporary form of skin decoration, in countries like Egypt, Iran, Pakistan, Syria, Morocco, Yemen, and Somaliland. It is typically employed for special occasions, particularly weddings. It is usually drawn on the hands and feet, where the color will be darkest.

The patterns of mehndi are typically quite intricate and predominantly applied to brides before wedding ceremonies. However, Mehndi decorations became fashionable in the West in the late 1990s, where they are sometimes called "henna tattoos".

Apple's iPhone in India with giant carriers Airtel and Vodafone

Everyone is eager to grab the new iPhone in India. Two giant carriers Airtel and Vodafone are ready to get iPhone in Indian Market.Though the launch date and price is not revealed they started their marketing and sales campaign for iPhone.

Vodafone/Airtel subscribers have a great reason to celebrate! Even before the end of 2008, you are very likely to taste Apple’s appealing iPhones without even browsing nearby grey markets or visiting abroad.Vodafone signed a deal with ten countries including India.

Airtel/Vodafone set to offer the Apple iPhone to its subscribers in India before 2008-end. The iPhone was first launched a year ago in the US with AT&T as an exclusive carrier. Its inaugural price was Rs 15,960 for 8GB and Rs 19,960 for 16GB with a two-year service agreement.Recently an iPhone 3G is launched in US for $199(8 GB) and $299(16 GB).

In US, visual voice mail was the first example of a unique collaboration between AT&T and Apple. In India many such new innovations can be expected. The innovation between Apple, Airtel and Vodafone could lead not only to new capabilities in the device but also to the network itself.

The iPhone combines three amazing products a mobile phone, a wide screen iPod and a breakthrough internet device into one small, lightweight, hand-held device with the best e-mail ever on a mobile phone. It allows for full screen web browsing, multi touch screen and applications such as Google maps. The latest software update can now allow you to customize up to 9 home screen pages anyway you like.

The iPhone represents a whole new experience in mobile phone and internet usage to access broadband wireless. While in India, iPhones are purchased from the grey market or carried back from overseas visits, easy availability through Airtel/Vodafone is bound to be very welcome.

More on iPhone
The Revolutionary iPhone
The Latest mobile phone updates
Latest Phones Competing with the iPhone
iPhone 2.0 unveiled
Is the iPhone coming to India this year?

Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma may be known and admired more for his films based on the dreaded underworld, like SATYA, COMPANY and CONTRACT, but there is no denying the fact that there are a sizeable number of his fans who swear by his kind of horror flicks. Be it RAAT, BHOOT, DARNA MANA HAI etc, all left an undeliable impression and were the subjects of many a Bollywood discussion.

The iconoclastic director is back with the same genre that he handles with panache and the subject that he has chosen is black magic, an age old superstition which is widely prevalent in our society. Be it the fastening of lemon and green chilly or hanging the painting of a demon to ward off evil in front of houses and buildings, we are a witness to these practices, even amongst literate people.

The self confessed atheist, Varma discloses in his director's note, his experience of the dark forces saying "Every once in a while I have experienced certain things or heard a first-hand account of some other people's experiences which in the least can be said to be hair-raising and inexplicable."

Official Website : Phoonk

Other Related guides:
Phoonk : A Black Magic Story
Watch Phoonk and win Rs.5 Lakh
