Abhinav Bindra strikes Gold at 2008 Beijing Olympics

India won its first individual Gold medal at the Beijing Olympics today. Abhinav Bindra won the prestigious medal at the 10m Air Rifle event at the Beijing Games.

The 25-yr-old is a Khel Ratna and Arjuna awardee and has won a gold medal in 2002 Commonwealth Games in the pairs event and silver in the individual event. He also got a gold medal in the 2006 World Championship in Zagreb. Winning the solo gold medal at the Beijing Games, makes one recall the time Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore won the silver medal in Athens 2004, for Double Trap Shooting.

This is the first time an Indian has won a solo gold medal in any Olympics. And all this amidst a spine injury which hindered his preparations in the run up to the Games.

MTV Splitsvilla - Episode 6

Minakshi was dumped by both the boys and voted out by the girls, this week. We thought this girl would go far! But then again, she didn't play it cool. When she entered Splitsvilla, she grabbed everybody's attention with her bold dance moves and skimpy outfits leaving the others shocked with eyes wide-opened.

This girl, a self-proclaimed poet, came across as a narcissist. In front of the camera, she is always so energetic, hyper, attention-craver that it looked almost fake. She did manage to make some friends at Splitsvilla, and didn't partake in gossips or get involved in any back stabbing. She took in all the insults and accusations furled at her with a pinch of salt. As she claimed 'I have turned all their insults into compliments...' Whether she was in the show for love or for fame, her theatricals were surely entertaining.

MTV Splitsvilla - Episode No. 5

The MTV Splitsvilla show this weekend was hyped to be the most spicy and interesting one so far and time and again, the promos ran about Prianca and Bosky having a showdown, in which most of what Prianca said ran in 'beeps'. Obviously, all Splitsvilla fans waited to watch it eagerly.

Annie Dumped this week
Ouch!! that must have hurt Vishal. On Saturday 7 pm, when I sat to watch MTV Splitsvilla, it seemed to be just like any other Splitsvilla show. Well, predictability is not really the second name of this show. Watching the the petite and also potential love interest of Vishal being 'unceremoniously' dumped this week is what can be described as an unexpected turn of events. Splitsvilla is now becoming more and more difficult for the girls to keep up their good-n-friendly nature and show their true colors. Each one is gradually warming up to the fact that, it is not all fun and games on this Show.

From the very glam and sensuous looking bath tub task to the date on the yacht, to the bickering, gossips, politics to envious glances, flying tempers to planning and strategy building in front of the camera and behind it. In all which looks like a lot many unanswered questions, the show is turning into something more that what looks simply looks like a video from the Indian version of MTV Grind(remember the late night shows on MTV long before it turned purely desi.)

So read on as I list the various events that finally led to the the elimination of Annie Krislinzki.

The Clash of the Giants

Shahrukh Khan kick started his tour, 'Temptation Reloaded' from Holland, on 22nd June among a huge number of fans in Rotterdam's cultural and sports complex, Ahoy. Many people across Europe gathered to see the Badshah perform along with other biggies of Bollywood. The tour is Shahrukh's second one. The first one in 2004 was named 'Temptations' and was a big success all over the world and is known as the best stage performance ever by Bollywood. The King of Bollywood is joined by Arjun Rampal, Katrina Kaif, Kareena Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra.

While the second Temptation Reloaded performance was in Germany, The Unforgettable Tour has also started off with their tour.

MTV Splitsvilla - Episode No.1

Ok after the fabulous start of Splitsvilla, the games have actually began. In the first show, the girls enter Splitsvilla and meet the boys face to face. As described in the earlier post, Splitsvilla is located in Goa. Set on the backgrounds of the beautiful beaches and awesomely set up romantic surroundings, the 20 girls start off with all their tactics.

In the beginning of the first show, the girls find where they will be spending the next coming days. In a huge villa which looks like every girl's paradise, the girls go looking around and claiming their rooms. They get to know who they will be sharing their rooms with. Then the girls are informed that they are going to meet the boys for the first time. Not knowing what to expect or even who the boys are going to be, the girls dress up their best and set out to create the first impression which is supposedly the most crucial.

One by one, they step out to meet the boys. Some do succeed in creating a lasting impression while others don't. To add to their surprise, Ranvijay announces that some girls are going to be eliminated then and there itself. And so the elimination starts. Both Varun and Vishal call out the names of the girls they want to stay back and the ones they want to dump. One of the dumped girls was Akansha who couldn't believe that she has been dumped. It was a hard blow for her and the other girls.

So with that note, the girls entered into the arena of what exactly Splitsvilla is all about. As the show claims - ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN!!

In recent years, Mumbai has been facing the most brunts of heavy monsoons in India. Right from the dark days of June 2005, the monsoons in Mumbai have been slashing and brutal. Though the administration has been claiming from past 2 years that it has been prepared to control the adverse effects of monsoons, little has been done. The roads are still flooded, drains clogged up, railway tracks full of water and the huge traffic jams.

Over the weekend, the city witnessed toppling trees, submerging roads, the Arabian sea splashing, walls and bits of building collapsing in one or two areas even killing some persons.

Ranbaxy Sellout - The Daiichi Acquisition

In an unexpected and stunning move, one of the country's largest and fast growing pharmaceutical Company, Ranbaxy has sold its majority stake of more than 50 percent to Japanese drug firm Daiichi Sankyo. On Tuesday June 11, Daiichi Sankyo announced the acquisition of the stake for over Rs.15000 crores.

Ranbaxy, one of the success stories in India, started out as a distributor of medicine and turned into a multinational Corporation with getting over 80 percent of its business from outside the country.

IIFA Awards 2008

Bangkok, Thailand, is still recovering from the extravaganza that is the IIFA (International Indian Film Awards), which concluded on Sunday.
The Bachchans - including Amitabh, Jaya, Abhishek and Aishwarya - charmed audiences and fans alike. Abhishek and Ash, however, did not bag an award for Guru, which was nominated in the Best Film, Best Actor and Best Actress categories, among others.
Ironically, Shah Rukh Khan, whose films won most of the awards - nine for Chak De! India including best actor and best film, and five for Om Shanti Om - was not present at the show.

iPhone 2.0 unveiled

Apple has announced the release of iPhone 2.0 in July this year. In the 'World Wide Developers Conference', the company's chief executive Steve Jobs unveiled the second generation iPhone. While India awaits the arrival of iPhones in India, this latest release is bound to catch up a huge number of buyers in the Indian market.

There has been speculations about the availability of Apple approved 'unlocked' iPhones in Asian markets. Markets are awaiting for the latest iPhone release and can look towards a huge opportunity in business with US and European countries wanting to buy the 'unlocked' version from Asia.
