Millions of Airtel subscribers will be able to purchase the iPhone at Airtel's Relationship Centers from August 22, a company statement said. "iPhone has been an iconic technological revelation of this year and Airtel has been at the forefront of innovation and customer delight in the Indian telecom sector," Sanjay Kapoor, President, Bharti Airtel Mobile Services said.

The iPhone is embeded with all 3G features and is twice as fast as the existing mobile phones. The phone also has in-built GPS system, that facilitates as a navigation and positioning tool.

US-based Apple has tied up with both Airtel and Vodaphone to bring the iPhone in the country. Bharti is trying to offer the iPhone before the Vodaphone group Plc as Apple chose the two providers to tap the world's second largest wireless market. Still, sales in India may lag behind other nations as India has yet to support speedier browsing and downloads.

There is no information on what the iPhone will be priced at. I guess we'll only know in a few weeks.
