The closest hill station to Pune is the Lonavala and Khandala. It is also the favorite shooting destination for bollywood. Many song sequences are been shot here. It is about 40 miles away from Pune towards Mumbai on Pune-Mumbai highway. The place welcomes a large crowd in monsoon season. People from Pune and Mumbai come to this place on almost every weekend to enjoy the monsoon, trekking and waterfalls. The main attractions are the Echo Point at Vaghdari, Gambhirnath Caves, tiger valley, Amby Valley, the trekking of Khandala Dari and a curious rock structure at Nagphani.
Mahableshwar was established by Britishers in the year 1829. It is very famous hill station of Maharashtra, India. Mahabaleshwar used to be the health resort during the British Raj. The hill station is situated in the western ghats of Sahyadri Ranges 90 miles away from Pune at the height of 4500 feet above sea level. Mahabaleshber is the highest hill station in western India. It is also a favorite destination for honeymooners. The best time to visit Mahabaleshwar is in winters. In the months from October to January the hill station is fully packed as this is the peak season. People from all across the country come here to spend their winter vacation.
Many of us are aware of this beautiful small hill station. Panchgani is another hill station situated 20 kms East of Mahabaleshwar and is 100km away from Pune. Panchgani is very famous for boarding schools; many of them cater to the kids of rich and famous. It is also most famous shooting site in Bollywood. The climate of Panchgani is cool and pleasant. The air is pollution free as the automobiles are not allowed after a certain point. Many visitors explore this place by walking down the streets. The attractions include the largest table land in South East Asian region, the Devil’s Kitchen, Sidney Point, Harrison’s valley point, Dhom Dam and Parsi Point.
Matheran is situated at a height of 2,625 feet above sea level and 120 km away from Pune. The air is fresh and pollution free as all the motor vehicles are banned here. So the place is explored by walking. A walk in the rain in monsoon season will be an experience of a lifetime. Other options are ponies and horses. A paradise for honeymooners and a perfect weekend getaway for Puneites and Mumbaiakers.
