The monsoon weekend getaways from Pune are very popular among Puneites as the city has various corporate offices and IT companies, which are closed on Saturdays and Sundays. Malshej Ghat : One of the popular monsoon destination for people residing in Pune and nearby places Malshej ghat becomes a heavenly weekend getaway destination during monsoon. Malshej ghat is a mountain pass located in the western ghats of Pune city. It has got number of waterfalls and the greenery is just awesome during the monsoons. The best time to visit is between August and September; the waterfalls in this period are in full swing. It is located 120 kms away from the city. It is a very good recreation spot to enjoy a rainy day with friends and family.

Lonavala / Khandala : Lonavala and Khandala are the nearest hill stations near Pune. They become a hot spot for Puneites and Mumbaikars during monsoon. The valley and the hill station is soaked in green fresh color. Walking on the road besides lush green hills, mystic fog and a light sprinkle of rain drops….. the best experience to have when in Lonavala or Khandala. Matheran : Matheran, means “forest on top” is another very beautiful and picturesque hill station near Pune which is located in Raigad district of Maharashtra state. The scenic hill station was discovered in 1850 by Hugh Poyntz Malet and was developed as a tourist destination. Situated at a height of 2635 ft above sea level, Matheran is one of the most popular weekend getaways for people residing in Pune and Mumbai. It is a small hill station on Western Ghats known for its greenery and adventures sports. One of the few places in the world, where vehicles are not permitted, Matheran, during the monsoons is transformed in to a green getaway.

Mahabaleshwar : Mahabaleshwar is another very popular hill station in Maharashtra state. It is located at an altitude of 1372metres above sea level in the Western Ghats. Mahabaleshwar gained popularity during British Raj when it served as the summer capital of Bombay province. Apart from being a famous holiday resort and honeymoon destination, it is also popular as a weekend getaway for Mumbaikars and Punekars. Mahabaleshwar is also known for the honey and strawberries produced here. One can visit strawberry farms to enjoy the real flavour of the fruit. It is said that the climate of Mahabaleshwar is ideal for Strawberries and Mulberries.

Sinhagad : The favorite and most popular of all the monsoon destinations is a trip to Sinhagad. It is the closest and is in close proximities from all parts of the city. Sinhagad is a fort that belonged to Shivaji Maharaj, it is located on a hill top and is easily accessible. However, few adventure enthusiasts take a difficult route to climb up to the fort, the road less travelled. Otherwise, it is a very scenic and beautiful monsoon hangout.
