The Institute has comprehensive facilities for teaching, research and patient-care. Teaching and research are conducted in 42 disciplines. In the field of medical research AIIMS leads with more than 600 research publications by its faculty and researchers in a year. Twenty-five clinical departments including four super specialty centers manage practically all types of disease conditions with support from pre- and Para-clinical departments. AIIMS also manages a 60-beded hospital in the Comprehensive Rural Health Centre at Ballabgarh in Haryana and provides health cover to about 2.5 lakh population through the Centre for Community Medicine.

4) (JIPMER) Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education & Reasearch , Pondicherry

4) (JIPMER) Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education & Reasearch , Pondicherry JIPMER traces its origin to 1823 when a medical school called "Ecole de Medicine de Pondichery" was established by French government. In November 1956 the Government of India took over the medical college in the wake of the ‘de facto’ transfer of Pondicherry. JIPMER which includes a tertiary care referral hospital is under the direct administrative control of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. It has both under-graduate as well as post-graduate medical and paramedical courses.

The staff strength of the institute is about 3000. The teaching faculty consists of 154 experienced teachers and 361 resident doctors.

5) Kasturba Medical College (KMC), Manipal

5) Kasturba Medical College (KMC), Manipal Kasturba Medical College (KMC), Manipal, opened its doors on June 30, 1953. The college started with only the pre-clinical section at Manipal and the students had to go to Mangalore for their clinical training. But with the clinical program having commenced at Manipal in 1969, it became a full-fledged independent college. The Medical Council of India granted recognition in 1958 with the first graduating batch of KMC. Recognition by the General Medical Council of Great Britain and the Malaysian Medical Council soon followed. Today Manipal University (of which KMC is a constituent college) degrees are recognized in all countries.

6) Maulana Azad Medical College (MAMC), Delhi One of India's premier medical colleges, ranked amongst the top five medical schools, is situated in central New Delhi, India, amongst the ruins of most famous British Jails- Khooni Darwaza, (literally the bloody door).
