Pune city is amongst the most green cities of the world. Pune is popular as one of the fast growing cities of India. It is emerging as a popular IT hub after the silicon Valley of India, Bangalore. The city is also referred as the cultural capital of Maharashtra and is a very famous educational center as well.

 

Few years back the city had the best weather and climatic conditions. It was pleasant through out the year. However, the concrete developments have brought dramatic changes in the weather in recent years.  Still, it is a perfect place to live because it is still green and calm. The credit for the greenery goes to the number parks and garden of Pune. They are maintained well by the management. If you haven’t got a chance to visit any of these parks and gardens of Pune, you should do it now. These should be on top of your list of things to do in Pune.

  • Saras Baugh : Saras Baugh is one of the most popular garden in Pune. The garden is one of the best tourist attractions of Pune. The Ganpati temple located on the hill lock inside the garden premise is very popular amongst the visitors coming in from all parts of the country. The temple was built by Madahvrao Peshwas. It is located just 1 km away from Swargate.
  • Peshwa Udyan : Right next to Saras Baugh is another garden named Peshwa Udyan. It is a small zoo quite popular amongst kids. The zoo is house to various species of birds, reptiles and other wild animals. It is a perfect place to take your kids for a picnic.
  • Bund Garden : Located in the heart of the city, just 2 km away from Pune Railway Station is the Bund Garden. Its another very popular tourist destination. It has a small dam constructed over Mulla and Mutha River. The garden offers boating facility too. The garden was constructed by Sir Jamshedji Jeejeebhoy and is the most frequented garden in the city.
  • Empress Garden : The empress botanical garden is very old. It is a very popular picnic spot for Puneites. The garden is spread over an area of over 59 acres this garden is one of the most preferred picnic spots in the city. The Empress Garden in-houses various species of plants, trees and shrubs. IT is located on Pune- Sholapur road.
  • Katraj Snake Park : It is of the unique park in Pune City. Neelam Kumar Khaire established the Park in 1986 and inside the park you can find approximately 160 species of snakes and reptiles. For tourists and visitors interested in reptiles, there is a library inside, where they can read about any particular species of reptile or snake.
  • Kamla Nehru Park : A places set in tranquility of lush green trees and all green surroundings. It is amongst the best gardens in Pune maintained by Pune Municipal Corporation. Today it is used more as a jogging park and is mostly frequented in the morning and evening time. It has a small park for kids to play.
  • Vasantrao Eknath Bagul Udyan : Eknath Bagul Udyan is a place where you not only get refreshed, but also return informed and entertained. Spread over 7 acres, the park houses an art gallery, has a musical fountain, a park for children, jogging track and a well-spread out lawn where one can sit and enjoy the greenery. The garden was constructed at a cost of Rs3.5 crore.
  • P.L. Deshpande Garden : P. L. Deshpande Garden is located on Sinhghad Road, Pune, it is also very popular as the Pune Okayama Friendship Garden or the Japanese Garden. The Okayama Friendship Garden at Pune is named as one of the major gardens of Japan, known as "The Korakuen Garden" in Okayama City, Japan.
  • Sambhaji Park : Sambhaji Park is situated on the Jangali Maharaj Road, at a distance of just one km from the Deccan Gymkhana. The park is famous for its fish aquarium, a small fort for kids and a magnificent fountain.
