The Best Monsoon Trekking Destinations in Pune

The best season to visit Pune (in my opinion) is monsoon. It is pleasant in all senses, the climate, the sightseeing; the beauty I mean everything is so picture perfect during monsoon season. Imagine drenched lush green trees, clean roads, a little bit drizzle, the mystic aroma of fresh air and some delicious Pune street food …….. Ah! This is what defines a perfect monsoon destination and Pune is n of these.

During monsoon in Pune, Puneites do not like sitting idle, instead, they prefer trekking / hiking up to nearby places with friends and family. It is a fun activity to do so, perfect as a weekend. These trekking and Hiking spots are very popular hiking trails for people of Pune and nearby places like Mumbai.

If you haven’t had any experience of trekking and hiking in Pune as yet, get out of your couch take a backpack with essential item and head towards any of the below mentioned monsoon trekking and hiking destination.

Sinhagad : Singadh, the nearest fort in Pune, whichis accessible from all parts of the city, is the favorite monsoon trekking destination. It is very difficult to even find a parking space 2km away from the fort, it is that jam packed on weekends. It is better to park your vehicles down the hill at some place and trek up to the fort. Lonavala & Khandala : A very popular weekend destination for Puneites and Mumbaikars. Lonavala and Khandala are the nearest hhill stations from Pune and Mumbai. During monsoons the valley id adorned with various temporary waterfalls. This is the best time to trek up or trek down these picturesque falls and enjoys a perfect monsoon day with friends and family. Going in large groups is always better than going in small groups.

Lohgad : Lohgad is another very popular trekking spot near Pune. It is about 52 Kms away from Pune. The fort stands at an elevation of 3450 ft. The fort is located in Shyadri hills, which itself is a very renowned trekking destination amongst trekkers in the country. The fort is situated right in the center of lush green surroundings. From Pune, you can reach Malawi (falls on Pune – Lonavala route) either by local train or by Bus. Once you reach Malawi, you can either hire a taxi or walk down till the foot hill, it is a 9 km distance.

Tikona Fort : Another picturesque fort near Pune, which is also a very popular trekking spot near Pune. Located at a distance of about 60 kms from Pune, Tikona is a triangle shaped fort located near Kamshet. It is also popular as a tourist destination famous for its gigantic doors, Trimbakeshwar Mahadev temple, a water tank and some Satvahan caves.

Prabalgad: Not many people in Pune are aware of this fort as a trekking destination. The fort is located between Matheran and Panvel, visible from the Mumbai Pune expressway. The fort is located at an elevation of 2300 feet in the Sahyadri Mountains. It is located on a plateau very close to Matheran, but unlike Prabalgad fort does not have a good source of water supply.
