Tata Hatchback Cars in India

It is one of the biggest automakers in India, formerly known as Telco (Tata Engineering and Locomotive Company). In 2008, Tata acquired two of the British brands namely Jaguar and Land Rover after which the total revenue was $16 billion. Today, Tata Motors is India’s largest automobile company, with consolidated revenues of USD 20 billion in 2009-10. The first major success for Tata was the launch of Tata Indica, India's first fully indigenous passenger car. It was launched in 1998 and was a huge success. The latest addition in the passenger car segment is the Tata Nano, notably world's cheapest car.

In 2004 the company acquired Tata Daewoo Commercial Vehicle, and in late 2005 it acquired 21% of Aragonese Hispano Carrocera giving it controlling rights of the company. The company's manufacturing base in India is spread across Jamshedpur (Jharkhand), Pune (Maharashtra), Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh), Pantnagar (Uttarakhand) and Dharwad (Karnataka). Tata Motors set up an alliance with Fiat in 2005. The alliance brough about an industrial joint venture with Fiat Group Automobiles at Ranjangaon (Maharashtra) to produce both Fiat and Tata cars and Fiat powertrains. The company is establishing a new plant at Sanand (Gujarat).

  • Tata Nano – A decade back if someone asked us about the origin of the automotive innovations, majority of us would answer Japan, Germany, Italy, US or some other European nation. Neither of them would answer India. The dream of making the world’s cheapest car finally came true, that too in India. Long back Mr. Ratan Tata had promised to bring the cheapest car and it was achieved by the launch of Tata Nano. The car was meant for common people who wanted to own a four-wheeler, which is easily affordable. Tata Nano comes in 3 versions with 1 engine and 1 transmission options. Starts at INR 1,30,110

  • Tata Indica V2 – The Indica was the first passenger car from Tata Motors. When first launched, the Indica prompted many complaints from early purchasers, who claimed that the vehicle did not deliver either the power or the mileage promised by the company. In response to the customer complaints, Tata Motors re-engineered the internals of the car and launched it as Indica V2 (version 2), which solved most of the complaints and emerged as one of the most sought after cars in the Indian automobile industry. The ‘More car per car’ motto of the company did catch up after this. Tata Indica V2 comes in 4 versions with 1 engine and 1 transmission options
  • Tata Indica Vista – Tata Motors have been advertising rather heavily for their 'freshened' up Indica Vista over the last few weeks and have been asking everyone to go and surprise themselves on their website in a fun interactive manner so people can understand what all has been changed or modified. The Drivetech site didn't really tell us how much of a change the Indica Vista has really undergone; apart from the major by-pass surgery in the form of a engine tweak (to meet the Bharat Stage-IV compliance) and a much better gearbox. And before we forget (since it's not immediately noticeable to most), it's also had a slight cosmetic update and is now known as the Indica Vista Drivetech4.
