On this occasion sisters tie a thread (considered sacred) on brother’s wrist and then brother pledge to take care of his sister in every way he can. The festival celebrates love between the siblings. The decorative thread tied on brother’s hand is called rakhi and is celebrated on the full moon day of the Hindu month of Shravana / Sawan in India. The festival also carries some social values like peace, harmony and unity.
