What is Ayurveda?

The word Ayurveda is composed of two sanskrit terms - Ayu meaning 'life' and Veda meaning 'knowledge'. Therefore Ayurveda means the knowledge of life or science of life. It is defined as the science, through which one can obtain knowledge about the useful and harmful ways of life, happy and miserable types of life, conditions that lead to the above types of life, as well as, the very nature of life.

* According to the original texts, the goal of Ayurveda is prevention as well as promotion of the body’s own capacity for maintenance and balance.

* Ayurvedic treatment is non-invasive and non-toxic, so it can be used safely as an alternative therapy or alongside conventional therapies.

* Ayurvedic physicians claim that their methods can also help stress-related, metabolic, and chronic conditions.

* Ayurveda has been used to treat acne, allergies, asthma, anxiety, arthritis, chronic fatigue syndrome, colds, colitis, constipation, depression, diabetes, flu, heart disease, hypertension, immune problems, inflammation, insomnia, nervous disorders, obesity, skin problems, and ulcers.

India Major player of Health Tourism

Marketing Ayurveda as part of the 'health tourism' has brought a new definition to vacationing in India itself. Medical treatment combined with leisure activities, fun and fitness. India has originated as one of the most important hubs for medical tourism.

Top-class medical expertise and facilities:
India has lot of tourists from other countries coming for the rejuvenation promised by yoga and Ayurvedic massage. Add to it, a nice blend of top-class medical expertise at attractive prices which is helping more and more Indian corporate hospitals to lure foreign patients, including patients from the UK and the US, for high end surgeries like Cardiac ByPass Surgery or a Knee/Hip Replacement. Indian corporate hospitals are well equipped, proficient and could measure up to or even outshine any hospital in the West, making the nation an attractive destination for health tourism.

Low medical costs compared to other countries:
As the inflow of more patients from affluent nations with high medical costs look for effective options, are increasing, health care tourism in India is definitely on the cards for most of them and the fast growing Indian corporate health sector is fully geared to meet that need.

No waiting period:
Not just cost savings or the high standard of medical care facility, but also the waiting time is much lower for any treatment in India than in any other country. Medical help is
often an emergency and situations can turn worse if the treatment is delayed. While you might have to wait for several months to get a surgical operation done in the US, in India things can be arranged within a week.
