On the streets of Pune, one familiar smell that you get is of the much-loved vada pav. Aloo tikkis, kanda bhajiye, dahi poori, bhel are the kinds of street food that are big hit among people all over India. Apart from these filling street foods, one can walk around the city and find various thick milkshakes with ice cream scoops called mastaani. Pune offers a wide variety of tasty food options that can fill up your stomach at any time of the day without adding too much to your weight. With variety in flavor and taste, street foods in Pune is awesome as well as economical with healthy options especially for students and people who come from different places. Following are the popular street foods in Pune:
  • Vada paav
- Vada Pav is the most famous Pune roadside snack. The vada is made of a spicy potato filling deep fried in a gram flour batter. It is served inside a small "Laddi Pav" along with hot and spicy garlic chutney.
  • Sabudana vada
- Sabudana Vada is another very popular snack in Maharashtra in western India and goes particularly well with hot Masala Chai (spiced tea). It is a deep fried sago-potato dumpling served with spicy green chutney. It is crunchy on the outside and soft inside. This can satisfy just about anybody even the weight checkers.
  • Pav bhaji
- Pav in Marathi means a small loaf of bread. Pav bhaji is a popular fast food dish, native to Maharashtra and is popular in most metropolitan areas in India. Bhaji in Marathi means vegetable dish. Pav bhaji consists of bhaji (a thick potato-based curry) garnished with coriander, chopped onion and a dash of lemon and baked pav. The pav is usually buttered on all sides.
  • Vada sambar
- Sambar is a vegetable stew or chowder based on a broth made with tamarind and pigeon peas. Vadas are preferably eaten freshly fried, while still hot and crunchy. It can be served with a variety of dips like sambar, chutney or curd.
  • Pani puri
– Pani puri is a great snack almost popular through out India. Tiny puffed puris stuffed with potatoes, chana, moong, sweet chutney and spicy pani is loved by all.
  • kutchi daabeli
- Kutchi Dabeli or Double Roti as it is popularly known is a tangy,sweet and spicy delicacy from Kutch ( Gujarat) and traditionally sold on the streets of gujarat. This snack has now become very famous on the streets of Pune and Mumbai. It can be said that it’s a different version of vada pav. Kutchi Dabeli is also a great street side food.
  • Sev puri
- This is another popular chaat sold on the streets of Pune. Every joint has its own recipe of sevpuri. Sevpuri, as the name indicates is sev topped on puris or papadis, along with potatoes and chutneys. It’s a tangy, crispy and tongue tickling street food item that you should taste in your life.
  • Dahi poori
- Dahi puri is a popular Indian Chaat item. It is basically an Indian street food like pani puri. But restaurants serve it too. It is a curd (dahi - plain yogurt) based item so it is very satisfying to end your street food meal with a cool dish as dahi poori. It is also a popular party dish.
  • Bhel puri
- Bhelpuri is a puffed rice dish with various vegetables and a tangy tamarind sauce. It is a type of chaat, or small plates of savoury snacks, particularly identified with the beaches of Mumbai as chowpatty and Jhalmuri in Kolkata. Garnished with onions, corriander and lemon juice, bhel puri is very popular street food among the students and office goers.
  • Aloo Tikki
- These are patties made up of mashed potatoes and masala deep fried in oil. They are served typically with a curry called Chholey (chick peas). They are very popular especially in winters.
  • Chaat papri
- Chaat is a generic name for a tangy and spicy mix, whose ingredients can be quite varied. The tangy flavor is usually imparted by the use of lemon, pomegranate seeds, Kala Namak (black salt), tamarind, and various chutneys. Chaat can be prepared with fruit, with popular ones including guava, banana, apple, melon, etc. It could also be made using small crisp pancakes made from fried flour, called "paapri", along with yogurt.
  • Misal pav
- Misal pav is a famous street food of Maharashtra. Cooked sprouted dals also called ‘usal’ is served with chopped onion, sev, farsan on top of it along with pav bread is called misal pav or missal pav. It’s a very tasty food and if you don’t add sev or farsan over it, it’s a low calorie, healthy food, good for weight watchers.
  • Chanachur
– It’s a traditional Indian snack known as chiwda, chevdo, or chevda in India and ‘chanachur’ in Orissa and Bengal. It consists of a variable mixture of spicy dried ingredients like fried lentils,[peanuts, chickpea flour noodles, corn, vegetable oil, chickpeas, flaked rice, fried onion and curry leaves. Its a popular evening street and also household snack.
  • kanda bhajiye
- Kanda Bhaji is a type of pakora or fritters that is quite famous in the streets of Pune. Kanda bhaji needs no occasion, be it lunch, midday snacks, dinner, weddings, or rainy days, this is all time hit. These are crunchy dumplings prepared using besan and onion.
  • Dosa
– Served traditionally with sambhar and chutney, Dosa has put South India on every culinary hot spot of the world. Popular all over India, dosa is a common breakfast dish and a street food item. It is also highly nutritious as the fermentation process increases the vitamin B and vitamin C content.
