Maruti Suzuki - The World's Best Hatchback Car Manufacturer

Witha tag line "India comes home in a Maruti Suzuki" is absolutely true. The Maruti Cars are made for India and Indian people. Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. is the largest automobile manufacturer in South Asia. Previously listed as a public limited company, it was known as Maruti Udyog Limited until 2007. The company was formed in 1981 but the production process took off in 1983 with the Maruti 800 as the first product. Today, the company is so huge that it has it’s service station all across the Indian Sub-continent. There are two manufacturing plants located at Gurgaon and Manesar. The Gurgaon plant has a facility to manufacture 350,000 units per annum. The Manesar plant that was launched in 2007 has a manufacturing capacity of 100,000 units per annum. Both the plants when combined together, they can produce 700,000 units annually. There are total 15 models offerd by Maruti Suzuki India Limited, that are Maruti 800, Alto, Wagon R, Estilo, A-star, Ritz, Swift, Swift DZire, SX4, Omni, Eeco, Gypsy, Grand Vitara. Swift, Swift DZire, A-star and SX4 are manufactured in Manesar, Grand Vitara is imported from Japan as a completely built unit (CBU), remaining all models are manufactured in Maruti Suzuki's Gurgaon Plant.

  • Maruti Suzuki 800 – 800 was India’s first affordable hatchback car with a 796 cc engine. It was launched in the year 1983. Until 2004, Maruti 800 was the best selling car in India and later the title was taken over by Maruti Suzuki Alto. Till date, more than 2.5 million units have been sold since its launch in 1983. The first car was presented to Lord Venkateshwara of Tirumala Venkateswara Temple. Maruti 800 starts at INR 1,94,699 (Ex- Showroom price Delhi)

  • Maruti Suzuki Alto – The second hatchback car from Maruti is Maruti Alto, which is a 5th generation alto model. In India, it was launched on September 7, 2000. It is India’s largest selling car since 2006 and crossed 1-million production in February 2008. It is the third Maruti model that crossed 1 million mark in India after Maruti 800 and Maruti Omni and 4th overall joining Hyundai Santro. Alto is most fuel-efficient car (in petrol engine) in India.   • Wagon R – Maruti Wagon R is “Made-for-India” version of Suzuki Wagon R. The R stands for Recreation. It is one of the first cars to use the "tall wagon or tall boy" design in which the car is designed to be unusually tall with a short bonnet and almost vertical hatchback and sides in order to maximize cabin space. It was launched in 6 variants, 4 of which were powered by K series Engine with 5 speed manual transmission gearbox and the other 2 variants were powered by the Maruti F10D 1061 cc four cylinder, sixteen valve, multipoint fuel-injected engine.   • Zen Estilo – Maruti Suzuki Zen Estilo is the rechristened version of Maruti zen. Estilo replaced decade old Zen in 2006. Zen was the first Maruti Suzuki car to be officially discontinued from production. However, Maruti chose to keep Zen branding alive and launched a new car in 2006 named Zen Estilo. But Estilo failed to carry the Zen brand, which is why Maruti came up with a refreshed New Estilo which looks better than the outgoing model with new headlamps, grille and bumpers.
