MTV ROADIES - The game goes International

Hugely based on American show 'MTV Road Rules', MTV Roadies first hit Indian Televisions in 2003. The winner of the first 'Roadies', Ranvijay ( a VJ of MTV) now hosts the current Roadies show. 'Roadies' was started when Hero Honda was launching their bikes 'Karizma' and they wanted a unique publicity campaign around travel and youths. The show is currently being produced by Raghu Ram, who was earlier working for BBC. Raghu Ram is also the judge along with VJ Nikhil Chinappa for selecting the contestants of Roadies.

What is Roadies?

Roadies is a reality show, where 13 contestants are selected from auditions conducted around India. These contestants take a road trip traveling around different routes across the country. Along with that they are assigned various money tasks and immunity tasks.

Money Task is one where each contestant wins some money which goes to an account. Later whoever wins the show, gets the whole money.

Immunity Task, whoever is able to perfornm the assigned tasks gets the immunity from being eliminated during vote-outs.

Vote-outs is a section, where each contestants gets to vote-out some one else, and the person who gets the maximum votes is eliminated from the show.

It was interesting since none of the guys were able to row to the bridge. However, the person who hung for the longest time on the rope won ,thus, getting an advantage to herself and her partner.

Vote-out: This was an interesting vote-out. Everone thought Ayaz was going. But finally Vikrant Rathore was voted out.

Task 3:Contemporary Dance
Here the roadies were divided into groups and were assigned a fairy tale to be enacted as an Immunity task. Sonel, Nihal and Prabhjot won it.

Vote-out:
This vote-out witnessed the twists and turns of the show. Raghu came on the show gave a chance to a non-immune person to win immunity by playing a 'lucky number' game. Shambhavi won it and was asked to replace any one of the immune members she chose. She chose Prabhjot. Then the votes took place. There was a tie between Prabhjot and Anmol, and their vote-outs became invalid. So there was another vote-out, where Snehashish Das was eliminated.

Show No. 5 - Yercaud

The roadies head to a beautiful campsite on a hill station in Yercaud. Two tents are put up for the roadies and they finally setlle in to sleep. Around 2 p.m Ranvijay beckons all the roadies for a Q&A round where the roadies get to ask each other intimate and tricky questions. Verbal blows, insults and confessions are revealed.

Task 1: Hanging upside-down on a trapeze
Next morning, a vote is taken to see who are the four people, the roadies want to vote out. So the roadies are divided into two groups. These two groups set out for their next Immunity Task, where each group has to hang on a trapeze upside down, and pass wooden chunks within 2 and 3 minutes. The group who passes the most, gains immunity. However, both the teams were able to pass only one wooden chunk each and no one won the immunity.

Vote-out:
At vote-out, since no one got the immunity, it was 8 people voting against all. Then Ranvijay announced that in case 2 people get the same number of votes, leading to a tie, they both would become safe from elimination. And a tie did take place, which saved both Prabhjot and Anmol from elimination. There was a second round of vote, where each of the remaining roadie got a single vote. But Ankita Bajaj got 2 votes, and had to leave the show.

Task 2: 20-20 Cricket
On their way to Pondicherry, Ashutosh and Sonel met with an accident. Though nothing serious,Ashu sprained his leg. The next day, roadies were taken to a cricket stadium for their Immunity Task. All roadies, except Sonel, were divided into 2 teams and each team had 5 chances to hit the wicket. If both teams score equal hits, Ashu would get the immunity. However, the score was 0-0.

Vote-out:
Here, Ranvijay announces that one of the teams will get immunity. However, who that team will be, is to be decided by Ashutosh. Ashutosh chose the team consisting of Shambhavi, Anmol & Ayaz. The vote-outs take place, and Prabhjot Virk is eliminated.

Show No. 7 - Chennai

This show was the Roadies 'ultimate'. All the eliminated contestants come back on the show with a BANG. The expressions on the other 6 roadies was timeless (esp. Anmol, it was a Im-too-smart-for-this smile to a complete OMG wipe out). The previous 5 eliminated roadies marched right in to settle scores. They had to challenge one of the survived roadie to a task, and who ever won the challenge could go International with MTV. So Prabhjot challenged Anmol, Ankita versus Shambhavi, Snehashish versus Ashutosh and Vikrant versus Nihal. Vibhor didn't get a chance to challenge any one and had to wait for his fate.

Task 1: Cutting off the opponent's plank
Here, the two challengers had to stand on two planks, respectively, which was halted 30 feet above ground. Each opponent was given an axe to chop off the other's plank. Prabhjot and Nihal were able to defeat Anmol and Vikrant, and became eligible to go to Bangkok.

Vote-outs:
There were no vote-outs, because the clear winners were declared and Anmol and Vikrant had to leave.

Show No. 7 - Chennai 2

This was the continuation of the last episode, where Prabhjot and Nihal are sure shots to go to Bangkok. Now the remaining 4 opponents - Ankita with Shambhvi and Snehashish with Ashutosh - had to prove if their eligible to proceed or not.

Task 1: High Pressure Water Hose

Each opponent has to hang on a water hose, with water falling over their head. The water pressure starts slowly till it reaches 110 psi. The person who can withhold the water pressure for the longest time, wins the task. Shambhvi and Ashutosh won the tasks.

Vote-out: During vote outs, the roadies had to vote any one out of the remaining contestants - Sonel, ayaz and Vibhor. Ayaz Ahmed was the unlucky one to go.

Final 6 roadies going Internationl:
Prabhjot, Nihal, Shambhavi, Ashutosh, Sonel & Vibhor
