The ultimate identity of India with the world is its cuisine and the exotic culinary delights. The moment you think of Indian cuisine you start visualising all kinds of flovors and spices. Indian cuisine has caught the fascination of the globe around. It is one cuisine that is made with different variations with a little regional twist to it. People coming to India are always surprised as to how different the Curry tastes in India than in their respective countries, the reason for this is the spices. There is no curry as the Indian curry.The origin of the word 'Curry' comes from the the south Indian word 'Kari' which is a blend of spices and sauces, mainly coconut. However, it has spread all over the country with a number of variety.

The Cuisine of India is characterized by its sophisticated and subtle use of many spices and herbs. Spices play a very important role in Indian cooking. Indian food is incomplete with out these spices. Indians spice up their food, teas, drinks and even sweets not with these wonderful aromatics for their exquisite flavor.

Spices are defined as "a strongly flavored or aromatic substance of vegetable origin, obtained from tropical plants, commonly used as a condiment".

Indian cuisine has been around for at least 2500-3000 years and it has changed much over the years. The use of many different herbs and spices make each dish quite unique. Each different region in India is known for it's wide selection of different recipes and Indian cooking styles and tastes.

Indian recipes are as vibrant as the geographical expansion, cultures and religions existing within the country. So whether you’re looking for rice recipes or bread preparations like roti, parantha or naan, India can meet your tastes as accurately as you want it.

India is a big country and so is the list of delicious cuisine. The extensive immigration and encounter with other cultures like European, Portugal and Moughal benefited India with a wide variety cooking styles and delicious delicacies. These people taught Indians about the use of different spices in various other ways. Today India is known across the world for its fabulous cuisine, rich culture and magnificent past.

Indian cooking has many different styles throughout. For that matter, there is really not one accepted style of Indian cuisine but rather many different styles. So if you travel to India you will find that the food prepared by the people and restaurants in that area will be different in each area. Of course there will be some similarities but it will also be very different from place to place.

Though about one third of the population is strictly vegetarian, there are many different dishes that include chicken, lamb and goat meat. In India though the cow is thought of as a sacred animal therefore you will not find many recipes including beef. Food is such an important part of Indian culture as in most cultures, and plays an important role in the family life and in festival celebrations.

In ancient times, spices were as precious as gold; and as significant as medicines, preservatives and perfumes. India - the land of spices plays a significant role in the global spices market. No country in the world produces as many kinds of spices as India and with a quality that is unmatched.
