Education In Pune

Education In Pune

Pune was called the Oxford of the east by the late Prime Minister Mr. Jawaharlal Nehru. Located a hundred miles away from Mumbai, Pune has thousands of students who study in numerous colleges and schools spread across the city. The quality of education is much higher in Pune compared to other cities in India. The boom in education and colleges in Pune in the last decade has given momentum to the local economy. Many industries and companies thrive in the city because of a larger percentage of educated populace in this large town.

Student life. There are numerous colleges and educational institutes and many of them are successful in efficiently enrolling students from all over the country. Many students come from underdeveloped parts of this country to educate themselves in Pune and find a decent job. Finding accommodation is not as difficult or expensive compared to Mumbai. Students usually live in hostels, rooms provided for rent, or stay as a paying guest while they complete their education.

The university. The University of Pune is considered to be one of the best universities in India and has numerous colleges affiliated with it. The quality of education is higher because of continually revised syllabus for higher education and stringent and disciplined examination policies. However, sometimes the competition to get into a good college can drive a person against the wall. Top notch colleges such as Fergusson and Symbiosis only admit students who have scored more than 90% in their XII Std. examinations.

Earn & learn. This trend has grown popular and many students work in the BPO industry that has taken root here because of the intelligentsia and educational standards offered by the city. It is now possible to earn while you learn which provides an opportunity for gaining experience in the corporate sector at an early age. However, many are lured into working for outsourcing companies only because of the financial benefits that they offer. Either way it has given momentum to this trend in the city where many students earn their living while they wait for graduation.
