Set amidst a breathtaking landscape resplendent with the verdant greenery of the western ghat mountains, the Dudhsagar waterfall is a prime tourism destination in Goa. Literally meaning 'sea of milk' in native Konkani, the Dudhsagar falls appears to be milky streaks cascading down the mountainside. At a height of 310m i.e. 1017 feet appx, Dudhsagar is the fifth highest waterfall in India and ranks 227th in the world.

How to Reach: Dudhsagar waterfalls can be easily reached by hiring a taxi or taking a bus from Panaji or even Margao.

The Dudhsagar waterfalls are located in the Sanguem district of Goa near the Goa-Karnataka border. It is located at a distance of around 60 kilometers from Margao and can be reached easily by hiring a taxi or taking a bus from either Margao or Panaji.

Dudhsagar has a milky white appearance because of which it is named as Dudhsagar i.e. “Sea of Milk”. The waterfall falls from a height of 1017 feet which is about 310 m. The lush green surroundings of western ghat forests enhance the picturesque beauty and have made the Dudhsagar falls a popular picnic site and a famous tourist destination. The waterfall has created a couple of pools nearby that lure the tourists for a bath and frolicking in the waters. During monsoons the waterfall becomes lively and attracts the major chunk of tourists.

Plunging into enjoyment with the falls

The tourists who visit Dudhsagar waterfalls prefer swimming in the calm waters. It is safe to swim but one needs to be careful. The Dudhsagar waterfalls provide a breathtaking view from the top so the adventurers could try and climb up to the head of the falls through bushes, boulders and water which looks fabulous at the dawn. It might take up to couple of hours but it’s worth it. Dudhsagar is a place where even if you spent entire day you feel like you could have spent some more time.

How to Reach Dudhsagar Waterfalls

Being a well-known tourist destination of Goa, Dudhsagar falls is a prominent stop on tours conducted by the Goa Tourism Development Corporation and private operators. The falls can also be reached by a train journey from Vasco or Margao. At Collem, in the Bhagwan Mahaveer Sanctuary near Mollem, there is a railway station where the train stops to pick up passengers for the journey to the waterfalls. Alternatively, taxis and buses can be hired.
