1. Dilli Haat

Dilli haat as the name says is truly the heart of Delhi. It depicts the weekly village markets which in early days were called Haat. The market offers a great variety of art and craft of India. There are about 200 stalls spread over a huge area. You’ll also see regional folk dances being performed. It is something that you can not miss out if you are in Delhi. The collectibles are simply superb. The ceramic pots, wooden sculptures, puppets etc, the list is unending.

2. Janpath and Tibetan Market

Janpath is again a very popular market in Delhi. Here you’ll finds products from all over India. Janpath is also a place for youngsters to hangout and have good time. The evenings are lively as the college crowd gathers here to have some fun. Most of the fashion designers pick stuff from markets like this specially the accessories.

3. Khan Market

• Location: South New Delhi, not far from India Gate.
• Opening Hours: Daily except Sundays.
• What to Buy: Books, music, branded and tailored clothes, Ayurvedic food and cosmetics, and lamps.

4. Paharganj

This is a crowded market. So first you need to be a bit careful from pit picketers. This is a wholesale market and you can bargain easily. Most of the stock is exported from here to various countries, so quality is not a matter of concern.

• Opening Hours: Daily until around 9 p.m.
• What to Buy: Clothes, shoes, jewelry, books, music, textiles, handicrafts, hookah pipes, incense.

5. Chandni Chowk

Chandni Chowk more than a century old market. If you have the recent flick “Delhi 6” then you can very well relate to the hustle and bustle of this area. The congested gallies and market area is not less than an adventure. Withing a fraction of a second you’ll find yourself stuck in a huge traffic jam. Food vendors in Chandni Chowk also serve up a delicious assortment of Delhi Street Food.

6. Lajpat Nagar (Central Market)

The Lajpat nagar market is a replica of Indian culture. Being one of the oldest markets of the country it is crowded by middle class households. The road side stalls and showrooms are the biggest attractions here. There is so much to take away for your home, your kids, and of course yourself.

7. Sunder Nagar

• Location: Off Mathura Road in central New Delhi, not too far away from Connaught Place, near the zoo and Oberoi Hotel.

• What to Buy: Silver jewelry, art, textiles, carpets, and antiques.
