In Bankim's novels we find character (s) of Sadhus (Monks). The reason behind it, as lrarnt from late Prof.SUDHIR HANDRA CHATTOPADHYAY, nephew of Bankim that in early boyhood of Bankim, he became criticicaly ill and there was no chance of recovery as declared by the then attending Vidyas (Raj Kaviraj) of repute. Suddenly a day after hr was declared irrecoverable, a SADHU appeared and told the family members of Bankim to allow him to visit Bankim and and give a chance to recover him (Bankim). The Sadhu met Bankim in a closed door room requesting the family members to leave the room. After or so the Sadhu left the house saying that the boy (Bankim) would be O.K.The Sadhu took no money or food offered by he family members. He left the place telling that had done his job and he would come again when he (the Sadhu) would reqire him (Bankim). In course of time most of the family members of Bankim either died or frgotted this happenings. At the fag end of Bankim's life one day a Sadhu appeared when Bankim was ill.
