A Compact Bundle of Technology - Mercedes Benz C-Class

The Mercedes-Benz C-Class is a compact executive car produced by the Mercedes Car Group division of Daimler AG. First introduced in 1993 as a replacement for the 190 range, the C-Class was the most affordable model in the marque's lineup, until the 1997 arrival of the A-Class. The C-Class is built at Mercedes-Benz factories in Sindelfingen and Bremen, Germany, as well as in DaimlerChrysler's South African factory in East London. The very first W202 C-Class sedan was produced on June 1, 1993, and the second generation W203 C-Class rolled off the assembly line on July 18, 2000. The third generation W204 C-Class was launched in 2007.

The C-Class platform has been used for several coupes, including the CLC-Class (and its predecessor, the C-Class Sportcoupe) and CLK-Class.

The new C-Class gives you a new feel for the road

Experience the road like never before with the standard-fit AGILITY CONTROL package. The new C Class is a pleasure to behold: its taut lines lend it an air of effortless superiority while the wide radiator grille and distinctive rear section announce a vehicle with a dynamic personality. You’ll also find the interior offers notably more space – and, thanks to fine materials and a new design, a more distinctive atmosphere.

Mercedes Benz C-Class

Mercedes Benz C-Class cars are a compact bundle of technology, safety and luxury. They offer excellent driving pleasure in conjunction with fuel economy.

C-Class Mercedes is available in two variants - C220 CDI and C200 KOMPRESSOR. The C220 CDI is driven by the powerful second generation, 2.2 litre common-rail direct injection diesel engine that delivers an output of 104 kW corresponding to 141 hp at 3800 rpm. The C200 KOMPRESSOR is propelled by 1.8 litre, super-charged engine. The four-cylinder engine delivers an output of 116 kW corresponding to 158 hp at 5500 rpm.

Transmission

* 6-speed manual transmission

The C-Class comes as standard with a 6-speed manual transmission, which makes gearshifts a sheer delight with their very short-throw action.

* 5-speed automatic transmission

How to shift gears faster? Let the car do it for you. The 5-speed automatic transmission is available for 4-cylinder models. It can judge people to perfection and adjusts – sporty or comfortable – to your personal driving style. To change up or down manually, you simply need to nudge the selector lever to the right or left.

* 7G-TRONIC 7-speed automatic transmission

The highlight of our transmission technology is standard in the C 230 Avantgarde: the 7G-TRONIC 7-speed automatic transmission. Seven forward gears constantly provide optimum engine speed and deliver virtually imperceptible gear changes. When changing down, the 7G-TRONIC – unlike other automatic transmissions – delivers extra-fast mid-range sprints by skipping individual gears. By simply nudging the selector lever, you can also shift gears manually.

C-Class remains a gamble with all too many reports of failures of parts from critical such as steering racks and clutches (AT transmission), feeble electronics and most important weak service from California to Moscow...The Brand needs still to change its plastic badge to 'silver' and will need some time to prove this. The badge still carries a massive group of aspirational followers, but at the board level, the A, B and C class are not even considered 'Mercs per-se. Mercedes needs at least another 3-5 years to convince a massive number of disappointed European and USA customers (hence the drop in sales on these markets)

I owned a 2006 C-class (C220 CDI - the previous C-class model) from new for more than three years; the first year gave me a sense of joy and exhilerating pleasure while driving. Following my first service, I was overwhelmed with a plaethora of electric and electronic issues, the fast degradation of consumption (from 47 mpg to 37 mpg, issues with the automatic transmissions (!!!!).
