The Festival of Ganesh Chaturthi
Ganesh Chaturthi is the day when Lord Ganesha was born.? Lord Ganesha is son of Lord Shiva and Parvati. It is believed that on this auspicious day Lord Ganesha bestows his presence on earth for all his devotees. The day falls on the fourth day of moons bright fortnight i.e. period from new moon in the month of Bhadrapada of Hindu calendar. The festival is also known as Vinayaka Chaturthi or Vinayaka Chavithi in Sanskrit, Kannada, Tamil and Telugu and Chavath in Konkani. General Elections 2009
It takes a month to elect a new leader in the world?s largest democracy. India is currently holding general elections?the largest democratic election in the world?to the 15th Lok Sabha in five phases on April 16, April 23, April 30, May 7 and May 13, 2009. The results of the election will be announced in single phase on May 16, 2009. Approximately 714 million eligible Indian voters will have the opportunity to elect leaders. India is a country where the retirement age of 58 does not apply to politics, ministers are well into their 70s and 80s.
The 7 Wonders of India
The Seven Wonders of India initiative was held nationwide with states clubbed under 16 clusters. After the commencement of this campaign, seven top wonders in each state cluster were declared. A top wonder was then chosen as a nominee from each of these states for the final seven wonders of India.
The “Seven Wonders” are: the Red Fort, Jaisalmer Fort, Nalanda University, Sun Temple of Konark, Meenakshi Temple, Dholavira site and Khajuraho, Tawang Monastery in Arunachal Pradesh and the Golden Temple in Amritsar.
